Creating a Process Workspace

Important

If you're a business user, we recommend asking your admin or data analyst to create Process Workspaces for you.

Process Workspace creation overview

  1. In the Celonis Platform UI, click Business Miner on the left of your screen.

  2. Click Create Process Workspace.

  3. Select the process type for which you want to create a Process Workspace.

    Note

If you don't see the specific process type you're looking for, select "Other process".

  4. Choose the Data Model.

    Note

Data Models marked as Verified indicate that they were verified for use with the selected process type. The verification process can take up to 30 seconds to complete.

  5. Check your Process Workspace to make sure it looks okay.

  6. Share the Process Workspace with other users.

Process Workspaces and Data Models

When you create a Process Workspace, you select a Data Model so Business Miner knows which process data to use. Depending on your organization's license and the process type, you can select:

  • An object-centric perspective (recommended) if available.

  • A case-centric Data Model.

Note

You need Use Data Model permissions for at least one Data Model to create a Process Workspace. Depending on your organization’s settings, you’ll either see only the Data Models you have Use Data Model permissions for or all the Data Models available in your team. If you select a Data Model you don’t have Use Data Model permissions for, you’ll be prompted to request access from an admin.

Configuring Data Model access during Process Workspace creation

Important

To configure this option, you must be either:

  • An admin; or

  • A variable admin (an analyst with team permissions of Manage General Settings).

Use the Business Miner Data Model Access Request setting in Admin & Settings to configure whether users can see:

  • Only the Data Models they have Use Data Model permissions for when creating Process Workspaces; or

  • All the Data Models available in their team when creating Process Workspaces.

Note

If a user selects a Data Model they don’t have Use Data Model permissions for, they will be prompted to request access. This generates an email to all admins and admin approval is required before the user can proceed.

Using a perspective to create a Process Workspace (recommended)

If you have a Celonis Platform contract that includes object-centric process mining and you have licensed this process, select the appropriate perspective from the list.

Using a legacy Data Model to create a Process Workspace

It's likely more that one legacy Data Model will be available for your process type. If you’re not sure which Data Model to pick, choose one and you can preview the data before proceeding. If it doesn’t look quite right, you can cancel and try another Data Model.

Checking your Process Workspace after creation

Once you've created your Process Workspace, click Create Exploration. If any of the options in the question list are grayed out, it's likely there is an issue with your Data Model. Click Debug at the bottom of the screen to check and fix any problems in your PQL. If you're not an admin or data analyst, you might need their help with this.

Create a Process Workspace by uploading a flat file

You can now get started with Business Miner even if you don't have access to a Data Model, by uploading a flat file.

When you've uploaded the data, we'll transform it and create a Data Model and Process Workspace for you, so you can get on with exploring your process.

When you're creating a Process Workspace, pick one of the additional options in the Data Model selection step to upload flat files from SAP or Oracle, or upload a CSV file or Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, or link a Google Sheet with an event log.

For SAP and Oracle, if you don’t have the flat files we’ll provide you with an extractor that you can run to produce the data you need.
