Installing Task Mining browser extensions (optional)

Task Mining browser extensions overview

While Task Mining captures information about user actions and interactions, like mouse clicks or when a user opens or closes an application, browser extensions can capture additional data.

Browser extensions allow data to be captured when a user visits a website, even if the user doesn’t directly interact with a displayed web page. The Task Mining data that is captured by browser extensions depends on custom rules you can set up for your Task Mining project.

For example, if an order form displays on a web page, you could set up a custom rule that captures the order ID, allowing this information to potentially be used in other analyses.

You can allowlist and denylist URLs, letting you specify which URLs Task Mining data can be captured from. There are separate browser extensions for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge and typically you would install both.

For information, see:

  • Configuring browser extensions.

  • Event types and attributes whose capture requires browser extensions to be installed and enabled, see ***event type and attribute reference sections***.

Installing browser extensions from the Chrome Web Store

  1. Open a browser you want to add the browser extension to.

    Tip

Supported browsers are Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

  2. Select the ***browser extension you want to install based on your installed Task Mining Client software version.

The Chrome Web Store browser extension page appears.

  3. Select <Add to <browser name> and confirm installation when prompted.

    An installation confirmation message appears.

  4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 for the other browser type (recommended).

  5. Select Extensions *** in your browser toolbar to view and manage your installed extensions.

    Important

Chrome blocks newly-installed extensions if they have been deactivated or uninstalled manually in the past. In this case, install the Google Chrome and/or Microsoft Edge extensions from the Chrome Web Store and turn them on manually.
